Barbie Convertible Sleeper Sofa

It was fun designing and making convertible sleeper sofas for Christmas for the two (of my three) pre-school granddaughters who are Barbie doll lovers.   Of course I had to get some Barbie dolls for myself to make sure the furniture is the right size.  I started with a basic Barbie and Ken in swimsuits from which I could make clothes last summer and then when I found out about the fashionistas who are jointed for posing, I had to get a Barbie and Ken with those abilities to sit properly on the sofa.  I was able to find some good deals online and am happy with the two I have now.

Having owned a "real people-sized" sofa sleeper from Pier One about ten years ago, I knew that the design I came up with should have foam sections that fold out.   Finding a small print in colors that would be "Barbie coordinated" was not too hard at the local fabric shop.  I chose one in a deep pink with white polka dots and another with a modern turquoise and white print.   The first one turned out pretty good and the second one was a little easier as I discovered ways to simplify the attachment of the bed sections.
